Hi all! It’s my first post here in the Forum. I’ve recently acquired a 2020 model year V60 T5 Momentum. I bought the car used, it’s got just under 60k km on it (just about 37K miles) and am about to take it for its 60,00km service, but before that I’m going through the car looking for any possible little issues to point out.
It’s been raining a lot here in São Paulo where I live (normal for this time of year), and having read about the sunroof issues on these cars I naturally started to worry. I’ve identified slight shrinkage to the seal already, which I plan to fix with the kit sold by Kovalex, but knowing it’s there I went looking for signs of blockage to the drains. Sure enough there are some stains in the headliner at the rear, and today after a significant amount of rain this week I opened the spare wheel well to find a considerable amount of water in there. The front passenger side floor seems to be wetter than it should be below the mats, too. I also get some water accumulation on the doors (it spills when I open them).
Most of the water inside the car has been showing up on the floor, not the roof, so I was wondering whether all this is a telltale sign of sunroof drain blockage, and if anyone here can tell me exactly where the water might be coming in from – meaning, where does the whole thing come apart after the drains get clogged. I’ve opened the battery compartment on the left (driver’s) side of the car and thankfully there is no sign of moisture in there, so I’m hoping its either on the right (passenger) side, or possibly the water came in from the floor while driving through certain slightly flooded streets this week (water level was never above the car’s floor – far from being very hazardous).
Are there other places I should check inside the car for leaks, or possible signs of blockage? Am I already in deep trouble or have I caught it in time?
I’d love to know if anyone has pictures of exactly where the sunroof drains exit on the V60, as I’d like to try and inspect whether they are clogged. Removing the sunroof is a bit of a challenge to me, but trying to go from beneath might offer clues.
I think the car will go in for service either thursday or friday, and I will probably have them have a look at the drains. I’m just trying to be extra thorough so I can point out to the people doing the service where they should look and fix. I also am covered for 3 months from the seller and if this car has extra issues then I can undo the deal, though it will be a massive pain.
I love the car by the way, and this sort of issue doesn’t scare me as long as I know how to prevent it in the long run, and that it is reasonably preventable in the first place.
Thanks, and sorry for the long winded first post.
