50k service weirdness…and a question | SwedeSpeed

50k service weirdness…and a question | SwedeSpeed

Took our xc90 in to a “new” Bay Area dealer today for its 50k service, and though I wouldn’t call it a bad experience, it was definitely a little weird.

1. 40k service was performed at a different dealer several months ago (clearly indicated on service receipt). When I took it in for its 50k service today (have PPD maintenance from steingold), I was shown that the previous dealer logged in my 40k service in the system as a 50k service at 40k miles. So for that reason, new dealer insisted on doing a 40k service instead of 50k to keep maintenance schedule up to date in their system. Didn’t really matter too much to me, as they were just re-doing the extra stuff from 40k – brake fluid, cabin filter, etc – above and beyond the required 50k items at no extra charge. Just seemed kinda weird. Perhaps it was to get reimbursed more $ from Volvo?

2. Asked to have sunroof seat replaced before b2b warranty expires and turns into CPO warranty in a few hundred miles. Was essentially told at first that the sunroof gap was normal, but clearly wasn’t as evidenced by new xc90’s on the lot. After pressing harder was told tech would “look into it” in a very dismissive way. At that point insisted on showing them the sunroof seal TJ and again was told “we’ll figure it out.” Was surprised based on their reactions to find the sunroof seal replaced under warranty when I picked car up with service advisor nowhere to be found. So despite their dismissive attitude, was pretty happy to see this taken care of.

3. Got a note on the service receipt that torque rod and mount were starting to crack and needed to be replaced as a pair. When I asked them why they didn’t go ahead and replace these under warranty at same time of service, was told they probably didn’t have parts in stock. When asked if it would be covered under warranty, service manager said “I don’t think cpo covers wear items like engine mounts.” I would expect cpo to cover the mounts, but since this observation was made in writing when the car is under b2b warranty (has 49.5k miles), shouldn’t this be covered under original warranty? At this point was pretty tired and didn’t feel like arguing, so figured I’ll deal with it later.

4. dealer wasn’t able to supply me a service loaner despite making the appointment over a month ago. When I asked why, was told that they have had an excessive amount of vehicles with ERAD and AC evaporator repairs needed, and many were still waiting for parts. So the owners of these vehicles had all the loaners tied up.
