JAC T9 4×4 Pickup truck in both Diesel and Battery electric forms launched.

Earlier this evening, Evolvelectric Motors Sdn Bhd (Evolvelectric Motors) officially launched the JAC T9 double-cab lineup for the Malaysian market. The new pickup truck from the Chinese manufacturer will be sold with either an efficient diesel-powered Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) variant priced at RZm119,888 and a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) costing a little bit higher. Well, a tad bit higher at RM199,888 before insurance.

The new JAC T9 features interesting styling for a pickup truck, a premium feeling interior, advanced technology and outstanding performance, allowing the T9 to set a new benchmark for the pickup truck market.

The T9 2.0L diesel variant is the only pickup truck in Malaysia to achieve a 5-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety rating under the latest scoring methodology. Meanwhile the T9 BEV stands as the first 4X4 electric pickup truck in Malaysia. So the T9 can offer lots of safety or the first ever brand to offer clean pickup here.

Mr Lau Yit Mun, Chief Executive Officer of Evolvelectric Motors, the T9’s versatility and accessibility, make it an ideal choice for all Malaysians drivers. He said,  “The JAC T9 is designed for all Malaysians, whether for business, family or daily driving. The versatile T9 4×4 pickup seamlessly adapts to any lifestyle, offering reliability for daily commutes, safety for family journeys, and style for an elevated driving experience. Its stylish design is sure to turn heads, and it stands as the most advanced 4×4 pickup JAC Motors has ever developed in its 55-year history of building light commercial vehicles. Built on JAC’s third-generation international platform, the T9 delivers enhanced stability, comfort and safety,”

He added that JAC’s success, marked by its quality and performance, is evident in its outstanding export achievements. In 2024, JAC Motors became China’s leading exporter of pickup trucks. The brand is actually huge over in China, and here, they actually are being led by veterans in the Malaysian automotive industry. So there is quite a plus with JAC.

“Equipped with 64-colour ambient light and music rhythm lighting, the T9 ensures a vibrant and dynamic cabin atmosphere. The T9 features a host of luxurious features such as an abundant charging interface combination of 50W wireless charging, USB, Type-C and 220V multi-power socket; armrest with cooling air vent to keep your desserts and drinks chilled; 10.4-inch touch screen Infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; 7-inch instrument cluster; 360° high-definition camera so you can see your surroundings, intelligent electronic shift with 4 modes i.e., Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow; and level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System. These features make driving a big vehicle such as the T9 a breeze,” added Mr Lau.

The T9 diesel variant is powered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, delivering 125kW and 410Nm from 1,500rpm to 2,500rpm. It features a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, driving power to the rear wheels.

The T9 BEV 4×4 is powered by an 88 kWh LFP battery pack that is sourced from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) which has an estimated reach of 340 kilometres of WLTP range on a full charge with the truck being laden (which is more realistic than it being empty). The EV dual-motor setup delivers a total power output of 220kW alongside a total peak torque of 516Nm and a top speed of 140km/h.  Charging is efficient with DC fast charging at 88kW, allowing battery to go from 15% to 80% in just 45 minutes. Meanwhile, the AC charging can fully charge the vehicle from 15% to 100% in approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes.

According to Mr Lau, the main target market for the EV variant are companies that aim to achieve their ESG or green efficiency initiatives. These days, it is a requirement for public listed companies or those dealing with them to be as energy efficient and clean. So having EV trucks could give them, what we can say as green ‘brownie points’. Or carbon offset points required of them.

To celebrate the launch of the T9, Evolvelectric Motors is maintaining the introductory price of the T9 until the end of the year, as follows:

    • T9 Diesel variant at RM119,888 (Peninsula Malaysia) on-the-road without insurance.

        ◦ Comes with 8 years or unlimited mileage engine warranty for the first owner, whichever comes first, subject to the applicable service policy.

        ◦ Comes with 5 years or unlimited mileage warranty, whichever comes first.

    • T9 BEV variant at RM199,888 (Peninsula Malaysia) on-the-road without insurance. Comes with 6 years or 200,000km warranty for the battery, whichever comes first.
