Where to buy a K16 in the states? | SwedeSpeed

I did all of this last year, and I gathered all the parts myself. The K16, I bought it and got it shipped from Germany. And after all the hassle (not really, but I bought all the parts across ~1.5 years), being honest, I have to admit the Elevate kit is very well priced. Also, Don (Elevate) has mentioned a couple times on C30crew that if you don’t want the tune, you could contact him and order the kit without it. Not sure if this still applies, but you don’t lose anything by trying.

The only way I know to get one in the US, other than second hand or Elevate, is through a BorgWarner distributor. Part number is 5316-998-0010. And yes, you’ll need at least the genuine K16 oil drain line. K04 drain line will not fit, and cannot be adapted easily (different shape, see here). The stock coolant lines will bolt right up to the K16. All banjo bolts are the same.

100% Needed P1 K04 check valve has different threads (M14x1.5mm) and won’t fit.
Tip: K04 turbo from P3 vehicles use the same check valve (M15x1mm threads). Pick up one at a junkyard, because it has the nipple already installed (a PITA to transfer)

Then, depending which tune you go with. You’ll have to upgrade fuel injectors (at least 550cc. Some tuners like Penta Performance recommend 750cc), go with step colder spark plugs (NGK LFR7AIX), upgrade the MAF (AFAIK, Hilton it’s the only one that recommends it, and he’s got a valid point with that). And at this point it’s more than obvious to mention it, but you’ll need upgraded intercooler, intake pipe, downpipe, and just to be safe, a shimmed block.
