Limited Mercedes-G-Class series in the look of the 80s

Mercedes will build a limited Mercedes G-Class series of only 460 examples called “Stronger than the 1980s”.

Mercedes will build a limited Mercedes G-Class series in the look of the 80s. The model is called the Mercedes G-Class “Stronger than the 1980s” and will be built in only 460 examples (460 is the code name of the 80s generation, W 460).

Mercedes is thus coming to customers who wanted such a model after the 500,000th G-Class rolled off the production lines in April 2023. It was painted in Agave Green and had orange indicators and black bumper strips.

The special “Stronger than the 1980s” series is available with two engines and three exterior colors

Customers can choose between the G 450 d or G 500 in combination with the colors Agave Green, Cream White, and Colorado Beige. All three colors were available on the original W 460. The vehicle front, radiator grille as well as bumpers, flared wheel arches and exterior mirror housings are finished in night black magno. The underbody protection is painted in black. The rear-end door is adorned with an original element from the 1980s – the silver brand badge featuring the black “Mercedes-Benz” lettering and an edition-specific spare wheel cover.
The Mercedes G-Class “Stronger than the 1980s” runs on classic 5-spoke light-alloy wheels, and the logo is the original from the 1980s, featuring the Mercedes-Benz lettering and laurel wreath on a blue background.

On the outside, the Mercedes G-Class “Stronger than the 1980s” takes a few elements from the Professional Line Exterior package such as mud flaps at the front and rear, protective grilles for headlamps for the darkened headlights, and all-terrain tires. The Professional roof luggage rack is optional.

Interior inspired by the 280 GE

The interior is also inspired by the historic model. The center seating area is upholstered in gray checked fabric. The grab handle on the passenger side features the lettering “Stronger than the 1980s” and the front door sill panels feature the topography of the Schöckl mountain near Graz, showcasing the test track where the G-Class has proven its exceptional off-road capabilities since 1979.

The exclusivity of the series is confirmed by the inscription “1 of 460” on the center console. Standard equipment includes among other things a nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, a glass sliding roof, and a Burmester 3D Surround sound system.

Under the hood, the G 450 d has a 367 PS 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel engine and the G 500 has a 449 PS inline-6 turbodiesel engine. The starting price is 160,055 euros (182,400 USD).
