Those late model V60 B6 cars in Canada are so cool – we didn’t get them in the States!
Personally, I’ve grown to appreciate the AAOS cars, particularly for your phone map being available in the driver’s display and the HUD — true, there are some comparative drawbacks with the simplicity and (relative) customizability of Sensus, but overall I feel like it’s a better executed package, barring the occasional bug, system crash, etc. that people are reporting.
Just finished a road trip around France and Switzerland in a MY26 XC40 B3 (2000km on the clock when I picked it up — 1200 mi!), and it worked flawlessly over the 3000 miles I drove it. Seats were relatively close (but definitely not quite) to the level of the V90 — they tried to stick me in an X1 off the bat, and when I sat in it, I immediately got out. Those BMW seats were not going to be it over the distance I was about to cover — the XC40’s were infinitely better.
AAOS worked (almost) flawlessly, apart from when it kept disconnecting my iPhone from CarPlay because of (according to it) my cable malfunctioning. The auto high beam is still as sh!tty as it is in my V90 — half of the time it turns the high beams off/redirects light, half the time it blinds oncoming drivers. Sometimes, it turns the high beam ON after having already turned it off, but before the oncoming car fully passes, so it effectively blinds the other person! It’s annoying and hilarious at the same time.
Fuel economy was incredible — at ~135km/h or ~90km/h nearly the whole time, I averaged 4.2l/100km in the B3, on 91 octane gas (95RON). That’s 56mpg.
Suspension was great, handling surprised me considerably (in a good way), and you actually forget about stop/start being there with the mild hybrid compared to in the V90 (where I turned it off the day I bought it, and haven’t thought about it since).
I even added my own Volvo profile onto it, and added it to my Volvo app (and was able to see its location, remote start it, etc.)! Of course, I reset everything to factory settings once I handed the car back.
Edit: Also, the B3 powertrain was surprisingly more than sufficient — sure, a bit low on power when you’re already up to speed, but more than enough low-end torque for quick overtakes at lower speeds, quick races to merge in tricky situations, setting off quickly from a stop light, and for powering out of lower-speed curves on windy roads.
TLDR: the XC40 surprised me, in a very good way.
