In this thread, I’ll share the story of my ownership journey with my S60R. This particular R is one of the final ones produced by the factory. I acquired it from the original owner, who obtained it via Volvo’s overseas delivery program.

This particular example was obtained by the previous owner on July 23rd, 2007, shortly after its build date on May 10th, 2007. The vehicle was driven for approximately 2100 miles overseas and had the opportunity to explore several European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, and Germany.

The previous owner had taken excellent care of the car for 14 years, but due to a growing family, they needed to let it go. I became the new owner soon after.

To preface this, I never intended to own a P2R. My original goal was to find a 2010 S80 V8 Executive. I tried for two years to purchase one of those. However, again and again, it didn’t work out. I saw the collectors market starting to open up on P2R’s and it started to seep into me that I should consider one. Of course, I had certain non-negotiable criteria. It had to have amazing history and the fewer owners the better.

THE FIRST ATTEMPT

I went against my wishes and attempted to purchase an 04 V70R with far too many miles and lackluster history for my desires. Unfortunately, the seller and I couldn’t agree on the price, leading it to sell to @bencrabtree27.

THE SECOND ATTEMPT

One rather boring afternoon after detailing our XC60 I had a TapATalk notification pop up on my phone. “2007 Silver S60-R AWD Automatic 92.5K miles” was the following title. I really liked the thought of an 07 R in Electric Silver Metallic and under 100k was a huge plus. Without hesitation I clicked on the notification. Within 7 minutes of the post being up I messaged the owner. The description of the car was promising, with only one owner and dealer-maintained records, including overseas delivery history. This was the example I sought after. Although it needed some maintenance, it was nothing that I couldn’t handle with the help of my mechanic.

We set up a date to go down to Charlotte to check it out. I had a local mechanic do a PPI on it since I was curious if there was anything else but the car was as described. It felt phenomenal.

Due to some complications, we couldn’t purchase the car there and then. However, two hours later I got a call that we could in fact purchase the car. We picked up a friend and rushed to the owner’s house, negotiated, and the next thing we know a check was written and signed. It was mine.

The 6th Volvo added to the fleet. I couldn’t be happier. It fit every ticket. My two-year search for a car had concluded. If you told me it would’ve ended up being a one-owner S60R at the beginning of my search, I would’ve laughed. I was fairly anti-P2R due to all the negativity around them. I am so glad it worked out the way it did.

The 5-hour drive home commenced. A flawless drive that was rewarded with its first proper wash in a long time.

This thing cleans up so well. I am still stunned at how well it cleans up then and now.

This car deserved a leatherique treatment. The Nordkap wasn’t in bad shape but it was decently dry and could use it. The results were nothing short of impressive.

I quickly fell in love with the car. I had second thoughts because of my negative bias towards the platform but I am so glad I held on. This thing was too nice to sell so early on.

I will continue this thread shortly. I figured this was a good start. To Be Continued.
