T8 – living with a hybrid – questions | SwedeSpeed

I have yet to drive an XC60 T8 hybrid, but have a few questions.

Is it possible to drive in electric-only mode until the battery is depleted? By “electric-only” I mean the gas engine doesn’t provide ANY assist or turn itself on, no matter how much power you command through the throttle.

NO. You can drive electric-only in Hybrid or Pure until the battery is depleted, but the gas-engine will always assist when needed. For example when you floor it, when wheels loose grip (like in snow), when temperatures are very low, etc. In Pure mode the point where the gas engine will kick in is different than hybrid, but it will start when needed.

Is it possible to drive in gas-only mode? i.e. the engine continues to stay running under way, from 0-100% throttle, and there is 0% assistance from the battery. I realize these have start/stop for the ICE when coming to stop at a stop light, for example.

NO. When in Power or AWD mode the gas-engine will always keep running, but you can never prevent assistance from the battery. When needed all wheels (and so all engines) will provide the power to the car. When you floor it in Power, Hybrid or Pure mode, both engines will provide power. When driving steady in for example Power mode, only the gas engine runs until you accelerate. And of course in AWD both engines will always stay running all the time.

Can start/stop be disabled permanently?(2023+ models). In some vehicles, General Motors, for example, there is no way to disable start/stop permanently*. The disable start/stop button choice resets when you restart the engine, and start/stop must be turned off manually, every time.

In Power or AWD mode the gas engine will be running all the time. Also when you stop.

On long road trips does the hybrid battery generally stay charged? For example, if I’m taking two days to drive from Seattle to Los Angeles, about 1,000 miles, can I reasonably expect there to be enough regen and limited use of any “automatic” hybrid mode utilizing the electric motors to keep the hybrid battery sufficiently charged?

Regen on long trips will probably not provide enough charge to drive electric-only for a long time. If you wanna keep the battery charged you opt for Hold or select the charging while driving. But the last option is kind of useless because it will use a lot of gas.

I have an EV charger at home, 11kW, for a BEV, with the CCS charge plug. Is the plug for the XC60 compatible with CCS? What is the maximum charge rate the car will allow?

Thanks!
